WOZNIAK STATEMENT ON 2010-11 BUDGET

HARRISBURG,  June 30, 2010 –  State Sen. John N. Wozniak released the following statement regarding today’s Senate passage of a state budget:

“This year’s budget negotiations showed that lawmakers have learned from past mistakes and moved quickly toward consensus, rather than entrenching for weeks and months.

“The result is a budget passed on time, without new taxes and with a continued commitment to improve the economy through job creation and education investments.

“Those commitments are vital as our economy sluggishly improves to grow jobs – the only way for the state to substantially increase revenue without increasing broad-based taxes.

“We should continue in the spirit of compromise and cooperation to tackle the looming problems that already cast a cloud over next year’s budget.  We have a commitment to discuss a fair tax on natural gas extraction that can help our local communities and state regulators cope with the impact drilling will have in Pennsylvania.”
